Festival of History 2019
In partnership with Dublin Festival of History which runs from 1-20 Oct, the Registry of Deeds has organised a keynote evening lecture with Karl Deeter, Frank Quinn and Simon Farrell on Tuesday 08 October and three lunch time tours on 3rd, 10th and 17th Oct. All events are free but booking via evenbrite* is required.

Lecture : Dublin House Prices: A 300 Year History of Boom and Bust 1708-2008
Date: 8 October 2019 @ 6.30pm

Description: Based on extensive research at the Registry of Deeds the three speakers traced 300 years of house sales across 10 key streets in Dublin city in order to compile a comprehensive house price index. As well as highlighting the homes of figures such as Arthur Guinness, Charles Stewart Parnell, and Jonathan Swift , this lecture will analyse the historical volatility of Dublin’s property market, and what lessons from history can be applied to today.

Speakers Biogs:
Frank Quinn is a lecturer in Valuations and also teaches accountancy at the Blackrock Further Education Institute. He is currently writing a book on valuations and has been a guest on national radio many times on the topic of property.
Karl Deeter is a compliance manager at Irish Mortgage Brokers and also a columnist at the Irish Sun and The Sunday Business Post where his focus is on finance, taxation and property. He also co-wrote the personal finance book ‘This book is worth €25,000’ with Charlie Weston.
Simon Farrell was the lead researcher on the Dublin House Prices project. His other work is as a professional musician on the double bass. Simon has played with and recorded with many household names like Imelda May and Paolo Nutini.

Lunch Time Tour: Family History Sources at the Registry of Deeds

Description: From 1708 onwards deeds including Wills, Marriage Settlements, Conveyances and Mortgages relating to property and land were registered at the Registry of Deeds which now holds over 5 million records relating to the entire island of Ireland. This guided tour will demonstrate how these records are a valuable source for family history.

Lunch Time Tour: Famous Irish Figures at the Registry of Deeds

Description: The Registry of Deeds holds continuous records relating to property transactions from the 25 March 1708 known as memorials. This guided tour around the building focuses on the lives and properties of some of the influential figures in Irish political and literary history who have signed the memorials.

This tour focuses on some of the famous historic buildings throughout the entire island of Ireland which can be uncovered among our 5 million memorial records. Highlights include Lissadell House, Kilkenny Castle and Westport House. Learn also how you can carry out your own research.
