PRA CEO Liz Pope & Walter Hemmens explore records at the Registry of Deeds
About: The seminar will consist of 3 x 20 minute papers exploring recent exciting discoveries by researchers at the Registry of Deeds. Dr. Seamas O Maitiu will speak on ‘Uncovering Historic Rathmines’, Dr. Rachel Murphy will focus on land evictions in Carlow in the 1830s, and Maria O’Reilly will speak about unravelling the complicated family history of Lord Mayor of Dublin Nathanial Warren (1737-1796). The papers will be followed by Q & A with the speakers which will aim to inspire and inform anyone wishing to use the Registry of Deeds to carry out their own research.

The Public Room at the Registry of Deeds
About: Since 1831, The Registry of Deeds has been located in the beautiful James Gandon designed landmark building at the top of Henrietta Street, alongside King’s Inn. The records we hold date from 1708 and are a valuable source for family, local, social and economic history. The tour will give an introduction to the building and the historical collections we hold.
National Heritage Week takes place during last week of August and is coordinated by The Heritage Council. Its aim is to build awareness and education about our heritage thereby encouraging its conservation and preservation. Full program of nationwide events can be viewed at www.heritageweek.ie
