Explore Your Archive Campaign & Seminar at Registry of Deeds

Explore Your Archive Campaign (23rd Nov – 1 Dec 2019) is an annual initiative of the Archives and Records Association to highlight the wonderful collections and work being carried out by Archive Services throughout Ireland and UK. The Registry of Deeds was pleased to host a photo call to promote the 2019 Ireland campaign with Explore Your Archive ambassador and history podcast host Fin Dwyer (@irishhistory).

As part of the Explore Your Archive program, the Registry of Deeds Archive Services will host a seminar for Thursday 28 November from 14.30-16.00 focusing on the archives of Registry of Deeds, Valuation Office, and OSI. Seminar is free but booking is required via https://rodeyaseminar.eventbrite.ie/

Speakers include Dr Fiona Fitzsimons who will outline using Registry of Deeds for family history research, Frances McGee who will describe the archives of the valuation office, Maurice Kavanagh who will give a presentation on the OSi historic map collection and Ellen Murphy who will discuss the development of archive services at the Registry of Deeds. The papers will be followed by a Q&A which will aim to inspire and inform anyone wishing to carry out their own research.

The Valuation Office, the OSi and the Registry of Deeds are all subject to the National Archives Act, 1986 and the seminar will be chaired by Tom Quinlan, Head of Collection Care & Public Services at National Archives of Ireland.

Registry of Deeds will also participate in the popular Explore Your Archive social media campaign and between 23 Nov-1 Dec will tweet images from the collections using the daily #Hashtags relating to different themes like #SweetArchives and #MysteriousArchives.
