Due to Covid-19 restrictions, Heritage Week 2020 has moved from physical events to virtual projects. In response to the Heritage Week theme ‘the heritage of education,’ this project explores Registry of Deeds memorials relating to educators and schools.

The first memorial featured relates to a bluecoat (charity) school for girls in Waterford founded in 1740. The project then examines a memorial of indenture of mortgage for St. Enda’s school founded by Padraig Pearse. It also highlights a memorial signed by Margaret Skinnider the Scottish teacher turned soldier, and another by Eamon de Valera, who began his career as a maths teacher at Carysfort teacher training college in Blackrock, Co. Dublin.
